The vehicles were given to the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and the State Security Services (SSS).
Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue on Monday in Makurdi donated 16 Toyota Hilux vehicles to four security agencies in the state to enhance their operations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the vehicles were given to the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and the State Security Services (SSS).
While assuring the benefactors of government’s patronage and support in the discharge of their duties, Ortom said the vehicles should help to strengthen their operations.
The governor said that his administration was determined to ensure security of lives and property.
He regretted the high rate of criminality in the state prior to his administration and assured that efforts were in top gear to curtail all forms of criminality.
Ortom said the recent drop in Federal allocations to the state and the further decline of Internally Generated Funds forced the state to look outside the box to source for revenue.
He explained that the provision of enhanced security would be the platform to attract the needed revenue inflow from both local and foreign investors.
He then charged the agencies to make optimal use of the vehicles by strictly using them for operational purposes.
Earlier, Ortom’s Special Adviser on Security Affairs, retired Col. Edwin Jando, said the vehicles would be deployed to Gboko, Katsina-Ala, Makurdi and Otukpo Local Government Areas for effective coverage of the state.
